About the role
About Lean FRO
Lean FRO advances Lean, an open-source programming language and proof assistant for formalizing mathematics and verifying software and hardware. We want developers, researchers, organizations, and decision-makers to understand what Lean can do, how it is evolving, and why it matters.
The Role
We are looking for a hands-on communicator and content creator to own Lean FRO’s external communications. This is an individual-contributor role with responsibility for editorial priorities, content production, and publication. You will personally create and edit content, working directly with Lean developers and leadership.
You will turn technical developments into clear, engaging stories, build a consistent public presence, and help audiences understand Lean accurately. Developers will provide technical context and review; you will drive the communications process from idea to publication.
What You Will Do
Build and maintain our public presence. Manage Lean FRO’s presence on channels such as X, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Highlight new features, tools, research results, and community achievements. Maintain an editorial calendar, communicate important developments promptly, and use audience feedback and engagement to improve results. Identify emerging or underserved relevant channels and build presence where needed.
Create engaging technical content. Produce and edit short videos, written posts, simple illustrations, and screen-recorded demonstrations. Turn release notes, documentation, technical posts, and developer discussions into accessible explanations. Choose formats that explain the subject effectively and can be produced consistently.
Improve public understanding. Follow relevant public discussions and identify significant factual errors or gaps in understanding. Distinguish substantive criticism from misinformation, acknowledge genuine limitations, and prepare clear, evidence-based explanations. Exercise judgment about when engagement would help and when it would simply amplify a dispute.
Work closely with technical experts. Build relationships with developers and contributors and proactively identify stories. Use Lean’s documentation, release notes, and technical posts as the factual foundation for content. Seek expert review for new, uncertain, or sensitive technical claims, and work with technical leadership on sensitive responses. Own preparation, coordination, and publication.
What We Are Looking For
You should be genuinely excited about Lean’s mission. You do not need to be a Lean expert when you join, but you must be eager and able to learn enough to communicate accurately. We value demonstrated ability, initiative, and judgment more than formal credentials or previous job titles.
Especially valuable: Experience communicating about programming languages, mathematics, formal verification, software engineering, or AI; familiarity with open-source and developer communities; experience building an audience for a technical project; and advanced illustration, animation, or longer-form video production skills.
What Success Looks Like
Within your first six months, we would like to see a reliable content pipeline and a cadence of approximately 3-5 distinct social updates per week, adapted for the relevant platforms. Short videos and visual demonstrations should be a regular part of this output.
Success also means timely coverage of important releases and ecosystem developments, accurate and engaging explanations, thoughtful responses to consequential misconceptions, and an efficient working relationship with technical reviewers.
How to Apply
Send a brief introduction explaining your background and interest in Lean, along with three to five relevant examples of work you personally created.
We are particularly interested in short technical videos, visual explanations, demonstrations, and social posts. For each example, describe the intended audience and your individual contribution, including whether you handled writing, presentation, recording, editing, or illustration.
Paid practical exercise. Finalists will complete a small, paid exercise using supplied Lean technical material. It will include a short finished video and an accompanying social post. We will provide the intended audience, scope, expected time commitment, and payment in advance. We will evaluate clarity, technical accuracy, production quality, audience awareness, and judgment.
Why Join Lean FRO?
Work directly with the people building Lean, turn substantive technical work into content people understand, and take ownership of a communications function whose direction you can help shape.
