About the Role

This is a flexible independent contractor position where you can work and earn as much or as little as you want, owning your work-life balance. You can supplement your income by working the occasional shift or work regular shifts to earn as much as two times the average veterinarian salary. You'll be in complete control of the schedule, where you work, and who you work with.

Relief Vets earn $140 / hour or more with Roo. Our top Roo Vet in 2025 made over $400K in a year.

What you'll do

  • Cover shifts at animal hospitals near you or anywhere you're licensed.
  • Review transparent shift details before you request, including pay, hours, expected caseload, and whether surgery is on the schedule.
  • Practice the medicine you love, then head home. No office politics, after hours calls, non-competes, or exclusivity.

What you'll need

  • An active veterinary license in good standing in the state(s) where you plan to work.
  • Clinical experience and the confidence to step into a new hospital and a new practice management system.
  • A collaborative, professional approach with hospital teams and clients.
  • Personal liability insurance (strongly recommended; Roo has resources to help you get set up).
